We will admire the Temple of Olympian Zeus, also know as Olympeion. The Olympeion was the temple of Olympian Zeus, located in southern Athens between the Acropolis and the Ilissos river. Here lies one of Zeus’ greatest ancient temples, as well as one of the most renowned marble buildings ever built, according to Vitruvius.
Next stop
The stadium that the first modern Olympic games were held in 1896, officaly named Kallimarmaron, greek for ‘beautiful marbles’ and the reason is pretty obvious.

Climbing up Lycabettus hill

Getting on the higher point of the city not only offers you a breathtaking view over the whole city but also gives you a better understanding of how it’s laid out. On your left you can see Mt. Imittos which acts as the east frontier of the city. Right at your feet lays the historical city center with the Parliament house and of course the Acropolis hill. Further into the horizon, one can spot Peiraeus port and the coastline.

Last stop for the day
The changing of the presidential guards that takes place every hour in front of the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. A ceremony full of symbolisation dating back to the independence war against the Ottoman empire in 1821 is worth your while and it’s the perfect ending to a lovely tour around Athens.
